One of Jim's greatest loves was leading his sons' Boy Scout troop. An Eagle Scout himself, he was an active merit badge counselor, Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster of Troop 91 in Prairie Village mentoring young men for over 10 years. He led Scout trips to Philmont Scout Ranch, the Canadian Boundary Waters and many other favorite Scouting destinations.

Jim was awarded the prestigious Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to the Boy Scouts of America, given to adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth.
